This week I wanted to find out a little bit more about the Black-Eyed Susan, a drink many of us have tried annually at the Preakness, but know nothing more than the fact that its sweet, and $10 and comes in a nice commemorative glass. After doing some research it looks like this drink was born in 1973, to be served quickly and efficiently to the masses during The Preakness Stakes. The recipe has changed a lot over the years from including limes, to replacing rum with rye whiskey, and one year it even included sweet and sour mix! Through my research I found two recipes I would like to share with you. The first is this years recipe from Pimlico, and the second is from a Baltimore recipe book, circa 1985 ( as close to the original I could find.) Let us know what you think, and leave your favorite Black-Eyed Susan Recipe in the Comments below!
