With summer fast approaching and vacations on the calendar, the stress of how much you can budget for the beach begins. I myself am quite the savvy shopper, especially when it comes to alcohol. Let me begin by saying, the beach is the last place you want to wake up with a headache, so the balance between budget and quality is essential! I always like to take vodka as my go-to vacation liquor because it is so versatile, you can make anything from Bloody's to Screwdrivers to accompany brunch, Fruity drinks or Mules in the afternoon, and in the evening if you're in the mood to party lemon drop shots are always easy and fun! With that being said, remember when buying any type of alcohol, the more you buy the more you save! Happy Vacationing and to everyone heading to the Ocean this weekend for the annual Ravens Roost Convention, Don't forget to stop for supplies before you head down! Go Ravens!
This week I wanted to find out a little bit more about the Black-Eyed Susan, a drink many of us have tried annually at the Preakness, but know nothing more than the fact that its sweet, and $10 and comes in a nice commemorative glass. After doing some research it looks like this drink was born in 1973, to be served quickly and efficiently to the masses during The Preakness Stakes. The recipe has changed a lot over the years from including limes, to replacing rum with rye whiskey, and one year it even included sweet and sour mix! Through my research I found two recipes I would like to share with you. The first is this years recipe from Pimlico, and the second is from a Baltimore recipe book, circa 1985 ( as close to the original I could find.) Let us know what you think, and leave your favorite Black-Eyed Susan Recipe in the Comments below!
